청계천에 놓인 36개의 돌, [청계유석]은 우리가 매일 사용하는 음료수 캔, 우산, 창문과 문, 자전거, 자동차 등을 만들며 생겨난 알루미늄 조각을 재생, 압축해 만든 조형물입니다. 각 [청계유석]의 표면에는 저마다의 흔적이 남아있어, 물결처럼 잔잔한 변화를 일으키고 햇빛을 받아 반짝이다가 시간이 지나면 돌처럼 바래어갑니다. 청계천이 덮였다가 다시 열리며 오랜 세월과 생태를 품어온 것처럼, 이 작품 또한 잠시 머문 뒤 재활용되어 새로운 자원으로 순환하게 됩니다.

These 36 stones are sculpted from recycled aluminum fragments—once part of everyday urban objects such as drink cans, umbrellas, windows, bicycles, and cars. Their surfaces preserve delicate traces of origin, shimmering in light, shifting like ripples, and gradually weathering into the stillness of stone. Like the Cheonggyecheon , once buried and later revived, this work embodies the resilience of time and place. It lingers only briefly before returning to the sustainable cycle of upcycling and renewal.

겹겹의 압축된 알루미늄 표면은 부서진 벽돌이나 오래된 건축 잔해를 떠올리게 합니다. 자동차 차체나 건물의 외장재처럼 도시를 이루던 금속은, 이제 낯설고 무게 있는 덩어리로 남아 마치 과거의 유물이 된 듯 서 있습니다. 반짝임 속에 스민 균열과 주름은 시간이 남긴 흔적이며, 도시의 삶이 응축된 금속의 단면입니다. Its compressed aluminum surface recalls fragments of broken masonry or the ruins of aged architecture. Once part of car panels or building facades, the metal now stands as a dense, unfamiliar form—an object that feels less like scrap than a relic from the city’s own past. Beneath its sheen lie fractures and creases, subtle marks of time inscribed upon a silvery cross-section of urban life.

도시의 유물은 버려진 물질의 잔해가 아니라, 도시의 역사와 기억을 은밀히 간직한 조형적 증거입니다. 이 돌은 한때 일상을 지탱하던 재료가 낯선 형태로 전환된 흔적이며, 다시 순환을 향해 나아가는 순간적 정지점입니다. Urban Relic is not mere residue but a sculptural testimony to memory embedded in material. It preserves the traces of what once sustained daily existence, transformed into a new form, pausing here only briefly before reentering the cycle of renewal.
