청계천에 놓인 36개의 돌, [청계유석]은 우리가 매일 사용하는 음료수 캔, 우산, 창문과 문, 자전거, 자동차 등을 만들며 생겨난 알루미늄 조각을 재생, 압축해 만든 조형물입니다. 각 [청계유석]의 표면에는 저마다의 흔적이 남아있어, 물결처럼 잔잔한 변화를 일으키고 햇빛을 받아 반짝이다가 시간이 지나면 돌처럼 바래어갑니다. 청계천이 덮였다가 다시 열리며 오랜 세월과 생태를 품어온 것처럼, 이 작품 또한 잠시 머문 뒤 재활용되어 새로운 자원으로 순환하게 됩니다.

These 36 stones are sculpted from recycled aluminum fragments—once part of everyday urban objects such as drink cans, umbrellas, windows, bicycles, and cars. Their surfaces preserve delicate traces of origin, shimmering in light, shifting like ripples, and gradually weathering into the stillness of stone. Like the Cheonggyecheon , once buried and later revived, this work embodies the resilience of time and place. It lingers only briefly before returning to the sustainable cycle of upcycling and renewal.

앞과 뒤, 두 얼굴을 가진 이 돌은 고대 신 야누스를 떠올리게 합니다. 한쪽은 얽히고설킨 금속의 흐름이 거칠게 드러나 있어 혼돈과 에너지의 세계를 보여주고, 다른 쪽은 매끈하게 눌린 표면이 고요와 절제를 담아냅니다. 서로 상반된 두 표정은 같은 몸체 안에 공존하며, 시간과 공간의 양극을 잇는 문처럼 서 있습니다. This stone, with its two contrasting faces, evokes the ancient god Janus. On one side, tangled streams of metal burst outward in restless disorder, embodying chaos and raw energy. On the other, a flattened and smooth surface holds stillness and restraint, offering a quiet counterbalance. Together, these opposing expressions coexist within a single body, standing like a threshold between time and space.

 야누스의 가면은 단일한 물질이 두 개의 얼굴을 드러내는 순간, 고요와 격정, 질서와 무질서가 어떻게 한 덩어리 안에서 긴장감을 이루는지를 보여줍니다. 금속의 얇은 결들이 서로를 가리며 만들어낸 장막은 보는 이로 하여금 이면의 세계를 상상하게 하고, 표면의 이중성은 끝없이 이어지는 변환의 은유로 다가옵니다. Janus Mask reveals the moment when one material holds two faces, where calm and turbulence, order and disorder, reside in tension. The thin metallic layers overlap to form a veil, inviting the viewer to imagine what lies beneath. This duality of surface becomes a metaphor for unending transformation, a reminder that every presence carries within it its own opposite.
