청계천에 놓인 36개의 돌, [청계유석]은 우리가 매일 사용하는 음료수 캔, 우산, 창문과 문, 자전거, 자동차 등을 만들며 생겨난 알루미늄 조각을 재생, 압축해 만든 조형물입니다. 각 [청계유석]의 표면에는 저마다의 흔적이 남아있어, 물결처럼 잔잔한 변화를 일으키고 햇빛을 받아 반짝이다가 시간이 지나면 돌처럼 바래어갑니다. 청계천이 덮였다가 다시 열리며 오랜 세월과 생태를 품어온 것처럼, 이 작품 또한 잠시 머문 뒤 재활용되어 새로운 자원으로 순환하게 됩니다.

These 36 stones are sculpted from recycled aluminum fragments—once part of everyday urban objects such as drink cans, umbrellas, windows, bicycles, and cars. Their surfaces preserve delicate traces of origin, shimmering in light, shifting like ripples, and gradually weathering into the stillness of stone. Like the Cheonggyecheon , once buried and later revived, this work embodies the resilience of time and place. It lingers only briefly before returning to the sustainable cycle of upcycling and renewal.

다학제적 건축디자인 스튜디오 SS2 Architects는 건축과 공공미술, 전시를 넘나들며 활동하고 구조와 유연성, 디지털과 수공예, 공간과 서사의 관계를 탐구합니다. SS2 는 지속가능성과 재료의 순환성에 주목하며, 도시와 자연의 맥락 속에서 공공적 가치를 가진 작업을 만들어가고 있습니다.

SS2 Architects는 건축과 공공미술, 전시 작업을 통해 임시적이거나 변형 가능한 공간, 그리고 재료의 순환성과 지속가능성에 대해 관심을 가져왔습니다. 청계유석도 그러한 관심사의 연장선 상에 놓인 프로젝트로 재생 알루미늄이라는 재료를 통해 도시의 흔적을 담아내고, 그것을 역사적이고 생태적인 장소인 청계천에 다시 놓아보는 실험입니다. 앞으로도 재료와 공간, 그리고 공공의 장소에서 생기는 관계를 탐구하는 작업을 이어가고자 합니다.

SS2 Architects is a multidisciplinary design studio whose work moves fluidly across architecture, public art, and exhibition. Rather than treating these domains as discrete practices, we approach them as overlapping fields through which to interrogate the relationships between structure and flexibility, digital fabrication and craft, and the spatial narratives that emerge from their intersections.

Central to SS2’s practice is an ongoing commitment to sustainability and the circularity of materials, understood not simply as technical imperatives but as cultural and ecological conditions. Our projects frequently take the form of temporary or transformable structures that test how architecture might engage cycles of use, decay, and renewal while still generating public value within the shifting contexts of city and nature.

The Cheonggye Yu-seok  extends this inquiry. By compressing recycled aluminum—an industrial residue marked by the traces of urban life—into a new sculptural form and returning it to the historically and ecologically layered site of Cheonggyecheon, the project stages a dialogue between material memory, urban history, and ecological process. Here, matter itself acquires agency, mediating between industrial pasts and environmental futures. Looking ahead, SS2 continues to pursue an expanded discourse on materiality, spatial practice, and the public realm as sites of negotiation between resource, environment, and collective imagination.
